— Captain MArvel —
— Starforce Costumes —
While working for Film Illusions Inc. I had the opportunity to work on some costumes for the Captain Marvel movie. Specifically the costume of Captain Marvel and the rest of the “Starforce”. The process by which these were made was a long process that involved multiple disciplines. First, the actors/actresses would be 3d scanned. That scan would be used to foam mill a body form that would be used to create a fiberglass copy. This fiberflass copy was then sculpted over traditionally in clay by the hard work and expertise of Scott Ramirez while using the concept art Marvel provided as a guide. This was later 3d scanned so that I could rebuild the sculpt in 3d (using maya and zbrush) to make it perfectly symmetrical. Afterwards it was 3d printed so that molds could be made. These molds allowed for the use of foam latex that was later painted and incorporated into the final costume.
This was also valuable experience as it taught me to be meticulous and have a high level of consistency within my work. Everything on these models had to be precise. Every scribe line was a certain width and depth and the scale truly mattered since this would be worn.
Below are a couple of Images that remain of some of the work that I did for the film. This isn’t everything, it’s just all that I still have.
